This beautiful room is dedicated to the memory of Ellie Wheeler.
Shortly after her birth her parents were told that she had suffered a massive brain injury which ultimately affected severely all aspects of her development.
Ellie took pleasure in the smallest and simplest of things. She liked bumps on the path, cuddles, soapy baths, a girlie chat, Daddy’s deep voice, a good singsong and her Mummy to help her clap along to music with a good beat. She loved the sensory room. She enjoyed the twinkling lights and the vibration of the bubble tube on her hands.
In her short life Ellie had over 60 hospital stays. Many of those were very serious and lead to her being intubated and admitted to intensive care (17 times in her six and a half years!). She had a particularly difficult time in the last year of her life with a whole raft of new medical issues to deal with and a succession of long hospital stays. Yet she took all of it in her stride. She faced everything with bravery, calmness, patience and even smiles.
We hope you smile today and every day. And we very much hope you enjoy using Ellie’s room. Perhaps you will give Ellie a little nod or a wink while you are here.
